How to choose your qamis in 2026 — The complete guide
Saudi or Moroccan cut? Summer or winter fabric? 1m70 or 1m90 size? The complete MyQamisMan guide to choosing the qamis that suits you.
Choosing a qamis isn't just buying a piece of clothing. It's choosing how you stand before Allah, how you present yourself to the community, how you feel in your own skin. In 2026, the offer is wider than ever—Saudi, Emirati, Moroccan, Yemeni cuts; technical fabrics that don't wrinkle; sizes that finally cover larger builds. But the wider the choice, the more lost one can get. This guide is here to help you avoid fumbling around.
Why this guide exists
We received hundreds of messages in 2025: "I'm 1m90, no cut fits me," "My qamis becomes transparent at the mosque," "I ordered black, I received grey after the first wash." These problems have concrete solutions—provided you know what to look for before buying.
At MonQamisHomme, we don't sell clothes. We sell confidence. This guide is a synthesis of everything we explain to our customers via DM, simplified into 4 steps.
Step 1 — Identify the cut that matches your use
The cut is the structure of the garment. It changes everything: the drape, the ease, the perceived formality.
The Saudi cut (the most classic)
Straight, refined, rigid mandarin collar, buttoned cuffs. This is the qamis associated with sobriety and respect. Perfect for Jumu'ah, Eid, weddings, khutbahs.
Suitable for builds: slim to athletic. Discover our Premium White Saudi Qamis or our Signature Black Qamis.
The Emirati cut
Slightly fitted at the bust, back slit, straight sleeves. A modern in-between Saudi and city wear. Suitable for athletic to broad builds. Discover our Prestige Navy Blue Qamis.
The Moroccan and Yemeni cuts
The Moroccan (djellaba) is loose, with a hood and side pockets—more casual, more cultural. The Yemeni is very loose with wide sleeves and lightweight fabric—designed for hot climates.
Golden rule: for your first qamis, choose a Saudi or Emirati cut. You can expand later.
Step 2 — Choose the fabric according to the season
A summer qamis is nothing like a winter qamis. And cheap fabric shows its quality after the first wash.
The fabric weights to know
- 140 g/m²: Summer, hot countries, 'Umrah, heatwave in France
- 170-190 g/m²: Mid-season, versatile all year round
- 200-220 g/m²: Winter, strong structure, impeccable hold
The fibers
- 100% combed cotton: breathable, noble, but wrinkles
- Polyester-cotton 65/35: wrinkle-free, holds color, our daily recommendation
- Polyviscose: silky drape, slight sheen (risky if poorly blended)
Pitfalls to avoid
Shiny fabric under light → cheap look. Seam with visible white thread on dark fabric → neglected finish. Absence of lining on the torso for light colors → guaranteed transparency.
All our qamis undergo a transparency check under LED lighting before being approved.
Step 3 — Take your size exactly
The biggest problem we receive: customers who buy their "usual" size from other brands and end up with short sleeves or a qamis that drags.
The foolproof method
Measure yourself in underwear, standing, straight:
- Chest circumference at the widest point
- Waist circumference (navel)
- Total length: from the hollow of the shoulder to the ankle (1-2 cm above the ground)
- Sleeve length: shoulder point to wrist with arm slightly bent
Tall builds (1m88+)
We have developed XL/XXL/3XL sizes with proportional lengths (not just widened). We go up to 150 cm total length for 1m95+.
Broad builds (shoulders + 110 cm)
Prefer the Saudi or Moroccan cut. Avoid the Emirati, which is fitted at the bust.
Step 4 — Maintain your qamis so it lasts 3 years
An €80 qamis that lasts 3 years is cheaper than a €30 qamis that you replace every 6 months.
The 5 golden rules
- Wash at 30°C inside out — never hotter
- Spin at 600 rpm max — to avoid strong creases
- Dry flat or on a wide hanger — never in a tumble dryer
- Steam iron inside out — avoid direct heat (risk of scorching)
- Fold in 3, not in 4 — to avoid permanent central creases
Fragile colors
Black, navy, charcoal: wash separately for the first 3 times. Beige, ivory, white: store in a fabric garment bag to prevent yellowing.
FAQ — The 5 most common questions we get asked
1. How many qamis should one have in their wardrobe?
Minimum 3: one white (occasions), one dark (sobriety), one colored (daily). Ideal: 5-7 to never be caught off guard.
2. Can one wear a qamis to work?
Yes, if the dress code allows it. Opt for sober colors (navy, charcoal, black) and an Emirati cut (closer to a suit).
3. What's the difference between qamis and thobe?
None — it's the same garment. "Thobe" is the Arabic term (Gulf), "qamis" is the Francophone Muslim term.
4. How to choose for Eid?
Premium white + neat finishes. This is the occasion where one invests a little more. Our Premium White Saudi Qamis is designed for this.
5. Really free delivery?
Yes, from €50 in metropolitan France, 2-5 day delivery.
